Stuttgart host Hamburger SV and this is a crunch match in the battle to claim the second and final automatic promotion spot. The home side are in third, a point behind visitors Hamburger SV. It's a game that Stuttgart can't afford to lose but they come into it struggling for form. Their two games played since the season resumed have both been lost. They lost 1-0 at relegation-threatened Wehen and on Sunday went down 3-2 at Holstein Kiel. That most recent game saw them concede early on and have a player sent off just before half-time. Despite that, they equalized early in the second half but then conceded two goals in the 78th and 79th minutes. A late goal was scored but they stil slumped to their third straight away league loss and the sixth in total. They will be glad to be back on home soil for this vital game. Stuttgart have the best home record in the Bundesliga II with ten wins out of 13 games. Only two have been lost and just nine goals conceded. They didn’t win their last home league game though, being held to a 1-1 draw by leaders Arminia Bielefeld. Six of their last seven home league games have been won with three clean sheets in the last four.

Hamburger SV have only won three away league games but lost the same number. Sunday didn't see them win but they did manage to get a point at home against the league leaders, meaning they are still seven points behind them. They will have been pleased to hear of Stuttgart being beaten and now have a point lead over them with Heidenheim a further point adrift of the final automatic promotion spot.  Only one of their last five league games has been won though, and that was against out-of-form Regensburg. Eight out of  their 14 away league games have ended  all-square. They would probably be satisfied with a point from this game. Hamburg haven’t won any of their last three away league matches with just one victory in the last 12, yet they are still challenging for promotion. They do get on the scoresheet on their travels but struggle to keep clean sheets. 10 of their last 11 away league games has seen both teams score. Go for Stuttgart to get the win here.
