A goal in each half gave Ajax a comfortable looking 2-0 lead over Sturm Graz in this Champions League second qualifying round tie. Now comes the home leg and the Austrian side have to greatly improve on recent home performances in Europe if they want to have any chance of getting back into this tie. They have lost their last eight home games in either the Europa League or Champions League and haven't had any European competition run of any note since the 2011-12 season.
Ajax Amsterdam will be confident of getting into the third qualifying round and a difficult looking tie with Standard Liege from Belgium. Pre-season friendlies produced mostly draws and losses but they were in good form when beating Sturm Graz 2-0 at home in the first leg of this tie. The last couple of seasons has seen them struggle in European competitions and the first leg win ended a run of four Champions League games without a win. They can be backed to get back in form here and secure an away win that will confirm their place in the next round.
