League One side Stockport County face an uphill task against Championship club Blackburn Rovers as the sides meet in the Carabai Cup. This first-round match at Edgeley Park on Tuesday comes with a likely prediction of a win for the Rovers.
The hosts started their League One campaign with a 2-0 win in their first match of the season against Cambridge United. That result helped them halt a two-game losing streak, both losses coming in friendlies. One of those defeats was a 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers, although the last competitive match between these sides was back in April 2001.
Stockport’s form at home is impressive, though, as they have won their last six competitive matches at this venue. That could make things interesting, as Blackburn looks to make it to the next round with a win. The Rovers started their Championship campaign with a 4-2 win over Derby County, giving them two wins in a row following the friendly win over Stockport.
It was a tighter game than what the scoreline suggests, as three of Blackburn’s goals came beyond the 70th minute. While that puts a question mark over their ability to find a goal, the Rovers have actually impressed recently when on the road.
