Sporting Lisbon and Manchester City had mixed fortunes in their weekend matches in their respective leagues, and the two sides will be facing off in the Champions League Round of 16 eyeing a first leg advantage. Sporting are coming from a 2-2 draw with FC Porto in their domestic league, an ill-tempered clash that saw five players red carded, four in the 90th minute. Sporting will be hoping for a calmer game against City. They play host here, in their first game of the knockout round since the 12-1 aggregate loss to Bayern Munich in 2009 and on this too, they will be hoping for better times. They’ve only trailed once in the last five matches and in the last three, they’ve led at half time and full time. In the Champions League, City lost two of their six group stage matches, against PSG and Leipzig. Going into this game, they have three losses and seven wins in their last 109 Champions League games. They are eyeing another appearance in the final after losing to Chelsea last time out and will be outright favorites in this game.
