Southampton have come very close to victory in their recent matches and will hope they finally get it in the Premier League, when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next game. The Saints go to this game placed 15th with four points and are one place ahead of Wolves, who have three points. Southampton are coming from a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United in the League Cup but won on post match penalties. In their last league game, against Manchester City, they had very close moments and will feel they should have won at the Etihad. That was their fourth straight draw in the league and going to this game, their only win this season has come against Newport in the League Cup, but they’ve failed to score in just two of their eight matches so far. In three of the Saints’ last five matches, they’ve managed two or more goals.

Wolves on the other hand, are coming from elimination from the League Cup via post match penalties, against Tottenham Hotspur. Their best efforts, coming from 2-0 down to 2-2 proved futile in the end, and in the league, they aren’t having a very good run. Wolves have lost twice in the last four matches; their last league game ended in a 2-0 defeat by Brentford. They’ve failed to score in two of their last five matches but in the other three, they’ve managed two or more goals. In their last two matches they’ve conceded two goals in each and defensively, they don’t have very impressive numbers. Wolves have one win and seven losses in their last eight league matches while they have failed to score in four of their last five league matches. In five away matches in the league, Wolves have managed just one win.
