Liverpool’s chase for a quadruple is still on. After winning their second piece of silverware, they aren’t in pole position for the Premier League title but they remain on course as contenders. Liverpool travel to Southampton on Match Day 37, starting the game in second place with 86 points while Southampton have 40 points in 15th place. Southampton need one point from their remaining two matches to confirm survival but their recent form hasn’t been inspiring enough. They are on four winless outings, three of them defeats, and in each, they’ve conceded two or more goals. Each of their last three matches have produced over 2.5 goals and their only clean sheet came in the shock 1-0 win over Arsenal. That also happens to be their only win in the last 11 matches; they’ve suffered eight defeats in those 11 matches. It has been a struggle at home too, as the Saints go into this game with five losses in the last six matches. In those losses, they’ve conceded two or more goals in each.

As Liverpool chase two more titles, the biggest of the four targeted, they have massive injury worries to think of. Their win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final came at a cost as Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah picked injuries and had to be withdrawn. They join Fabinho, who is also on the sidelines with injury, and this is a major worry for Jurgen Klopp. The German coach will not be really worried for this game, but the future, as he targets the Champions League title. He will definitely have good replacements for the three as Liverpool look to extend their 16-game undefeated run. They’ve however managed two clean sheets only in their last five matches and with a weaker defence, Southampton may just find space. Liverpool haven’t shown many signs of cracking in the league; in their last 16 league games, they’ve only dropped points twice, in draws with Manchester City and Tottenham.
