Chelsea picked an away win in the Champions League, beating LOSC Lille 2 – 1 in midweek to take their run to three straight wins and put some stability in their season. They have now scored in each of their last four matches, and indeed scored two or more in the last three matches. Perhaps what they need to work on going forward is the defence, having managed just one clean sheet in the 11 matches they have played in the season. While they have managed just three wins in the seven Premier League matches so far in the season, it is key to note that Chelsea have scored in each of their last six since falling 0 – 4 to Manchester United on the opening day of the season. They have scored two or more in four of their last five league matches and of their last three away league matches, they have picked two straight wins. The blues are bound to come stronger after their slow start, with some key players coming back to fitness. The Saint are however winless in their last two matches in the Premier League. Before the loss to Spurs they had fallen to Bournemouth and having conceded five goals in their last two league matches they will want to approach this game with a good focus on defence. Southampton have no home win in the league this season; their two victories in the league have all come away from home and indeed, their unimpressive home form draws back to last season – they have no home win in five Premier League matches played at home and they have lost two of the three they have played at home this season. Taking on a Chelsea side that has won each of its last three away games across all competitions, scoring 10 goals comes as a tough task. Southampton have not managed a win over Chelsea in their last eight meetings and Chelsea have fove clean sheets in the last seven meetings with Southampton. In the last three meetings, Southampton have not managed a goal in this fixture, though in the most recent one the two sides drew 0 – 0.
