Southampton will be at home at St. Mary’s on Sunday to play host to Burnley in their round 30 Premier League clash. Both sides are seeking to rise further from the relegation region after difficult times in the season. The 14th placed Southampton and 15th placed Burnley are tied on 33 points, only separated by goal difference. Southampton had a great outing in their last game, beating Bournemouth 3-0 in the FA Cup and will be looking to carry that form to the Premier League where they’ve really struggled in 2021. The Saints started the season brightly and at some point even went top of the standings, but that has changed after managing just one win and one clean sheet in the last 12 matches. Out of a possible 45 points in the last 15 league matches, Southampton have managed to secure just nine points. They started 2021 brightly, with a 1-0 win over champions Liverpool but after that it has been downward for the team. They have suffered 10 losses in the 12 league matches after the win over Liverpool and going here, they’ve conceded 11 goals in their last five while the five they’ve scored have all come in the last three matches. It hasn’t been better at home; they’ve lost four and drawn one in the last five in the league. They’ve conceded two or more goals in three of the five league games at home and kept no clean sheet in the five. Southampton have failed to score in just one of the last five home matches, but haven’t scored more than one goal in the last eight league matches at home. They will miss Spaniard Oriol Romeu, Will Smallbone and Michael Obafemi for this game as they are injured while Theo Walcott and Danny Ings remain doubtful.

Burnley are coming here from an impressive 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park in their last game before the international break. The Clarets also haven’t had a great season, and just like Southampton, they are seven points above the relegation region. Three points from this game will be very key for both sides and after that win at Everton, Burnley will feel confident about going to Southampton. The win over Everton was Burnley’s first in six league matches. They aren’t the best scorers around, but they also don’t concede heavily. In the last 15 league matches, Burnley have conceded more than a goal in four matches, and kept just four clean sheets. They’ve scored more than a goal in only three of their last 15 league matches. A result of that is only three of their last 10 league matches have produced over 2.5 goals. Away from home, they’ve failed to score in eight of the last 15 matches, and they should be able to do well here as they are not so affected by injuries like Southampton. So far the confirmed absentee is Ashley Barnes, but there are doubts over Jack Cork, Roby Brady, Charlie Taylor and Kevin Long.
