Southampton are getting their scoring mojo back and will be looking to express it even more when they play host to Brighton in the 29th round of matches in the Premier League. The two sides are hoping to rise from the bottom half of the league standings. Brighton are placed 17th with 26 points and Southampton are 14th with 33 points. For Southampton, survival seems assured though it hasn’t been all good for them in the season. They are coming from a 5-2 loss to Manchester City. It marked another setback to an already tough season but if there’s something they’ll take from their recent performances, their attack has been positive. The team has scored four goals in the last two matches, with Che Adams and James Ward-Prowse stepping up well in Danny Ings’ absence. The Saints have two wins and eight losses in their last 11 matches, across all competitions. In their last 11 matches in the Premier League, they have just one win and clean sheet, and this was against bottom placed Sheffield. It hasn’t been much better at home; they are winless in the last four home matches in the league, the most recent ending in a draw with Chelsea. After four straight away matches, the Saints should be hoping for a lift as they return to St. Mary’s and being unbeaten in eight matches against Brighton should offer the boost in confidence.

Brighton have lost their last three matches, and also ceded ground in their push for survival. They are now only above the relegation region on goal difference though they have a game in hand. The visitors carry a run of six winless matches to this game and have lost each of the last three league matches – against Leicester City, west Brom and Crystal Palace. While losing to Leicester is understandable, Brighton will really rue the points lost in their defeats to West Brom and Crystal Palace. Defensively, they’ve been compact, conceding two goals in just two of 13 matches across all competitions and as a result most of their games have been low scoring. In the league 11 of their last 15 matches have seen under 2.5 goals scored but they’ve failed to score more than a goal in their last 10 league matches. Brighton have three wins in their last 18 Premier League matches.
