On Match Day 36, Southampton will be at home to take on Brighton as they look to wrap up the season strongly following an impressive run after the league resumed. Southampton have a game against Manchester United before they face Brighton and will be hoping to put up two great outings in these matches, as they seek a high finish. So far, the Saints have secured 44 points and are 12th while Brighton have 36 points and in 15th place. Southampton are unbeaten in three matches; they beat Watford 3-1 before registering a crucial 1-0 win over Manchester City and battling to a 1-1 draw with Everton in the most recent game. With three wins in their last five matches, Southampton will look at the clash against Brighton as a winnable game and a chance to improve their home form, which has not been really impressive in recent games. They have four losses in the last six home matches in the league. From their 17 home league matches, the Saints have managed just five wins and lost 10 and on only four occasions have they managed to score two goals or more. In their last six matches against Brighton, Southampton are unbeaten but none of their three wins has come at home, and only one of the six matches has produced over 2.5 goals.

While Southampton are seeking a mid table finish, Brighton are still seeking points to ensure safety. From their remaining three matches, Brighton need five points to be guaranteed of safety and coming from a 5-0 beating by Manchester City, they will hope for a better outing at St. Mary’s. In the three remaining matches, Brighton will feel they can get the five needed points and hope to get the first three against Southampton and will really need to summon their away run which has seen them go undefeated in the last five. Of the five away matches though, four were draws but crucially, they have clean sheets in their last three away matches. They will be glad to take on a Southampton side that has not been very strong at home and will want to take full advantage. In their last 15 away matches, however, Brighton have managed to score more than one goal in just two matches and have just three wins in 17 away league matches.
