Aston Villa are going through a really rough patch, one they will be hoping to stop when they travel to Southampton on Match Day 11 in the Premier League. The two sides are one point apart; Southampton 14th with 11 points and Aston Villa 15th with 10 points. Hosts Southampton stayed unbeaten in four matches with a 1-0 win over Watford last time out, their second win in 10 league matches. They had a boost in James Ward-Prowse’s return from suspension in their last game and will be hoping to build on her. The issue with Southampton is that they don’t score a lot of goals; in the last six games, they’ve managed more than a goal in just one. Three of their last four have ended in under 2.5 goals and five of their last six home league games have also produced under 2.5 goals.

Aston Villa are in turmoil; they have four straight losses ahead of this game, and in their last six, they’ve managed just one win. Like Southampton, they’ve also not been scoring a lot of goals; in their last six, they have scored more than a goal in just one game. It will not be easy for them, with Danny Ings and Douglas Luiz injured. In their last game, they suffered a 4-1 loss to West Ham, and it was worse with Ezri Konsa sent off, thus suspended here. Dean Smith’s change that saw him start with Tyrone Mings on the bench backfired and there seems to be a lack of confidence in the team. They’ve lost four of five away league matches and will find it tough against a Southampton side they’ve beaten just once in the last 10 meetings.
