Arsenal’s 1 – 0 win over Qarabag in their Thursday Europa League game marked their 22nd unbeaten game since the loss to Chelsea and they have won 17 of those. Under the new manager, Unai Emery, The Gunners have grown in strength and in confidence; they are a different side from the team Arsene Wenger left and they will be firm favorites going into this game. The return of skipper Laurent Koscielny will further boost them as the team has really struggled to keep clean sheets in the season. The team has now registered two straight clean sheets and perhaps now the only headache Emery will have is who to pair Koscielny with in central defence. In attack, Arsenal have been superb, failing to score in just one of the last 23 matches, with Gabonese forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang having the biggest say on this, having netted 10 of the team’s 35 goals while he has enjoyed great partnership from Frenchman Alex Lacazette. Arsenal have scored two or more goals in each of their seven away matches this season but they have no clean sheet in any of those. After a poor away record last season, they will have a lot of positives to look at this season so far, having lost just one of the seven – the Week 2 clash against Chelsea. In total, Arsenal have scored 18 goals in the seven away matches in the league this season and are unbeaten in six. Southampton, the side with the least wins in the league this season (one), will head to this game hoping to take down Arsenal, who have managed 10 wins in 16 matches. The Saints look like prime candidates for relegation after losing nine of their opening 16 matches and they are among the sides with the worst defence, having conceded 30 goals so far. They have the joint second worst goal difference at -17 and without a win in their last 10 matches across all competitions, we really don’t expect a shock in this game. They have picked five out of a possible 21 points in their seven home matches this season and having scored in four of them, they will perhaps have something to hold onto.
