Sheriff Tiraspol are among the surprise teams still in contention for a playoff place in the Champions League qualifiers. They will host Red Star Belgrade in the return leg of the third qualifying round, hoping to keep the fine run that has seen them go unbeaten in seven matches. The only time they failed to win in those seven matches, was in the 1-1 draw with Red Star, and they have scored two or more goals in four of them. Both teams have scored in Sheriff’s last four matches, and they’ve won each of the last three home matches. Sheriff have never reached the group stages of the Champions League but having come this far may just be the push they needed.

Red Star Belgrade are also on a good run ahead of this game, but they have managed just a clean sheet in the last three matches. They have four wins in five matches and have scored in each of these matches. On only two occasions have they managed to score more than a goal in the last eight outings. They joined in at the second qualifying round and suffered a shock loss to Kazakhstan side Kairat Almaty but recovered at home to win it 5-0. The advantage may be with Sheriff here, playing at home after a 1-1 draw in the first leg but Red Star have the experience playing at this stage, which should work in their favour. The visitors have just one clean sheet in the last five away matches, and that will be their main worry here. However, they have scored in each of the five away matches, three times in them, scoring two or more goals.
