Sheffield United posted some positive news after a very poor first half of the season and they will be hosting Tottenham Hotspur on the back of two straight wins. One of these wins was in the FA Cup, but the most recent was in the league, their first of the season, which lifted the team to five points but they remain bottom of the standings. Tottenham on the other hand missed a chance to leap into the top three after a draw with Fulham and now have 30 points, in sixth place. The hosts have scored four goals in their last two matches and while this should be a sign of better things, the manner of their win over Newcastle United left some doubts. Newcastle had a man sent off at 45 minutes but Sheffield needed a controversial penalty in the 73rd minute to see off the Magpies. In the 20 matches the team has played this season, it has two wins and in the last five, has failed to score in three. The slim win over Newcastle presented the first clean sheet for Sheffield this season and was just the second time in nine league matches at home that they have avoided defeat. The other was against Fulham, which ended 1-1.

Tottenham had an early lead through Harry Kane in their game against Fulham but were less than impressive afterwards, in their last game. This rearranged game should have worked for Spurs but they fluffed it after allowing Fulham back in the game. Manager Jose Mourinho’s tactics will once again be questioned as the team, for the second time in three league matches, dropped points after taking an early lead. However, they have a six-game unbeaten run and three clean sheets in the last five, with only two losses in the last 18 games. It is in the Premier League that a lot of improvement is needed, with the team currently winning just one of the last six league games. In the last five matches, Spurs have dropped 10 points but they have managed to score in four games. Away from home in the league, they are winless in the last four matches. They haven’t scored more than one goal in six away league matches, and they have conceded twice in just one of the last six away matches in the league.
