With every passing game, it seems clearer that Arsenal will not be in European competitions next season. That is one of the issues the Gunners will be hoping to solve when they travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United. The hosts are bottom of the Premier League standings with 14 points while Arsenal are 10th with 42 points. Sheffield have suffered four straight losses ahead of this game and a poor run in the league leaves them 15 points below safety. In their last four matches they’ve failed to score in three and have conceded 11 goals in the four while scoring once. Just like Arsenal seem primed to miss European football next season, Sheffield United have looked very unlikely to survive. Such is strengthened by the fact the team has won just 12 points from their last 15 matches in the league and kept two clean sheets in the process. After playing three straight away matches, Sheffield will be glad to be back home, but not that they’ve been superb at home. In their 15 home league matches, they’ve managed just three wins – a 20% winning rate. Sander Berge, Billy Sharp and Chris Basham are all ruled out of this game with injury.

Arsenal are coming from yet another disappointing outing – the 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague in the Europa League. The result means the Gunners are now without a win in their last four matches and in the league they are nine points below the Europa League slot. They’ve been poor in defence, keeping no clean sheet in the last 14 matches and head to this one having conceded nine in the last five matches. The Gunners are also the lowest scorers in the top 10, despite having some of the best attacking players in the league. In league action, they’ve managed just three wins in the last 10 matches and have conceded six goals in the last two. After their 3-0 loss to Liverpool in the last league game, Arsenal will be hoping for a better outing away from home, having managed three undefeated outings in away league games. However, they have just one win in the last five away league matches and in the 15 played they have a 40% winning rate, having managed six wins. From the 45 points on offer, Arsenal have managed to secure 21 in their away league matches. It will not help them defensively that the Gunners have David Luiz and Kieran Tierney out injured.
