Hampden Park is set to host a momentous fixture in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers (UEFA) on Tuesday night, when Scotland take on Denmark in a winner-takes-all Group C clash. The Dark Blues are in second place in the group standings, just one point behind the Red and Whites on 11. Check out our match prediction below!

Scotland have not reached a World Cup main draw since 1998, but they can end that run here if they secure victory in front of the Tartan Army. The Danish Dynamite are aiming to secure entry to their third consecutive global tournament and need a draw or better to punch their ticket to North America next year.

These two were inseparable when they met in the reverse fixture back in September (0-0). However, this week’s hosts have the better recent head-to-head record in this encounter, winning three of the last five meetings (D1 L1). Huge stakes, heroes, and heartbreak await at Hampden Park - let’s get into the key stats!

Scotland - Denmark: Form Analysis

Scotland received a lifeline last week when they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Greece, but were not fully punished for it by Denmark, who were held to a 2-2 draw by a plucky Belarus in Copenhagen.

That was the Dark Blues’ first loss in this competition following three consecutive victories and a draw. However, it was the fourth match in succession that they scored two or more goals.

The hosts have won both home games in these qualifiers, scoring five goals and conceding two. They have also won each of their last three against their upcoming opponents on home soil and kept clean sheets in the last two.

Denmark are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions (W5 D2)!

Despite their impressive recent form, Denmark will be kicking themselves after failing to put away Belarus last week in a match where they recorded 35 shots, 10 attempts on target and 13 corners.

That result took the Red and Whites’ goal tally to 14, but it was also the first time they conceded twice in normal time since their Nations League Playoff quarter-final against Portugal in March.

The visitors have won both their away games in this competition, scoring nine goals without conceding. However, before these qualifiers, their last victory on the road came against San Marino in October 2023.

Scotland & Denmark Squad Analysis

After missing the MD8 fixture against Belarus, Ryan Christie marked his return to the team with a goal last week, while Bournemouth’s Ben Doak notched up his first goal for the senior team.

Angus Gunn’s absence was a major talking point in the lead-up to the trip to Greece. While 43-year-old Craig Gordon pulled off a few crucial saves last week, he was also partly to blame for their third goal on the night.

Che Adams squandered several good chances in the last match, and while he will likely keep his place in the starting 11, Lyndon Dykes could have a big role to play in the closing stages.

“Our medical staff are doing everything possible to limit it!”

This was the statement provided by Brian Riemer after it was revealed that a sickness bug had hit his squad, causing Rasmus Hojlund and Joachim Anderson to miss the match against Greece.

Hojlund’s absence was particularly noticeable in the last match, where midfielders Mikkel Damsgaard and Gustav Isaksen scored for the Danes, while Jonas Wind failed to make much of an impact.

It is still unclear if Hojlund or Anderson will feature for the visitors this week, but reports suggest that Morten Hjulmand should return to the starting lineup after coming off the bench at Parken Stadium.

Our Scotland vs Denmark Prediction

Denmark enter this match holding their fate in their own hands, needing just a point to progress to the World Cup. However, they will know that they cannot afford another sloppy performance like they produced against Belarus, with Scotland now forced to throw caution to the wind.

While the reverse fixture ended goalless back in March, we are expecting to see much more attacking intent, especially from the home side, given what’s at stake here. Therefore, our Scotland vs Denmark prediction is BTTS.
