The first half of the season did not go down so well for Saint-Etienne, and the second hasn’t started so well either. They will be however hope for a positive result when they host title contending Olympique Lyon. Saint-Etienne head to this game placed 16th with 19 points, just four above the relegation playoff spot while Lyon are third on 40 points. The hosts have conceded 30 goals already in the 20 matches played and have just four wins. Saint-Etienne were among the best starters in the season, winning the opening three matches, and with clean sheets. However, they afterwards went winless in 11 matches and at the moment, have one win in the last 17 games. They have no clean sheet in the last six matches and just two in 17. At home, Saint-Etienne are unbeaten in their last four matches but all those have ended in draws. They are actually winless in the last seven home matches.

Lyon have not had it going their way either, though it has only been in the last two matches. Five dropped points in the last two games have denied Lyon the chance to sit at the top of the league standings. The chance is not gone though, they can rise to the top with a win here, but only if PSG and Lille lose their matches. Lyon have not had European engagements this season and seemingly it has paid off, as they have the third best defence and are second best scorers. Tino Kadewere, Toko Ekambi and Memphis Depay have jointly scored 27 of the team’s 39 goals in Ligue 1 so far. Meanwhile the team has conceded 19 goals. In the last six matches, they have scored two or more in five and failed to score in just one of the last 16 games.
