Lille are struggling in the early stages of their Ligue 1 title defence; they have just one point to show after two matches and will hope the third, away to Saint Etienne will come with a win. Saint Etienne have drawn both their opening two games and go to this game a point better than Lille. They however have no win in the last five matches, and in their last 10, they’ve had just one, with both sides scoring in eight and the 10 producing just one clean sheet for Saint Etienne. In their last game, Saint Etienne took the lead twice against Lens but in the end, they drew 2-2. That was their sixth straight game to produce over 2.5 goals and they’ve also conceded two or more goals in four of their last five. Saint Etienne are winless in their last three home matches, while in Ligue 1, they have no win in the last four games, failing to score in two of them. They are also winless in their last five meetings with Lille.

Lille are coming from a 4-0 loss to Nice, which was a big shock by their standards. The champions never seemed to get into the game, after conceding twice inside five minutes and going to half time, they were 3-0 down. Their last two matches suggest otherwise though, having conceded seven goals in that run. Their mettle in attack is also questionable after that defeat, and going to this game having failed to score in three of the last five matches. Lille go to this game having one clean sheet in six matches and with the extra fixtures in Champions League coming, the season can only get torrid. Away from home, Lille are winless in the last four matches, losing two and drawing as many. They have no clean sheet in four away matches and have failed to score in two.
