Andy Murray takes on fellow Brit Ryan Peniston in the Wimbledom first round. The winner of this match faces either fifth seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas or Dominic Thiem in the last 64. With Murray beginning this grass court Grand Slam ranked 40th he could have faced a much tougher first round draw. The tormer champion has had success on grass this year winning the Challenger Tour events in Surbiton and Nottingham. Murray is only playing his third Wimbledo championships since 2017. He lost in the second round last year and round three in 2021. Going into this tournament Murray says he's feeling the best he's been since winning his second Wimbledon title in 2016. He has reached the third round in his last two Grand Slams, though with Tsitispas likely to be met in round two here, he may struggle to keep up that record.

Ryan Peniston was given a wild card to play in this tournament. That was needed as he begins this Grand Slam ramked 268th in the world. That's well below his career high of 123rrd achieved last July. He has spent most of this year playing on the Challenger Tour with two hard court semi-finals reached in early 2023. The 27-year-old played four grass court warm-up tournaments, winning three out of seven matches. He beat Ugo Humbert at Queen's and his opponent was ranked 37th at the time. This is only his second time in a Grand Slam main draw. The other appearance was at Wimbledon last year when losing in the second round. We go for Murray to get the win in straight sets.
