Rwanda will play host to Zimbabwe as the two nations start their 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Group C. Coming from a poor campaign in the AFCON 2023 qualification, Rwanda will hope for a good start here. These two face off in a group that also has Benin, Lesotho, Nigeria and South Africa. The last time these two nations faced off was in the CECAFA Senior Challenge, which Rwanda won 2-0. Otherwise in competitive action, they’ve never beaten Zimbabwe, in their two earlier meetings. Rwanda come into this game without a win in five matches, having lost three of them. In nine of their last 13 matches, they failed to score, and have just one win. They’ve scored more than a goal in just one of their last 20 matches.

After serving a FIFA ban, Zimbabwe are back to competitive action. They last played a competitive game in January 2022, at the African Cup of Nations. In a September 2023 friendly match, Zimbabwe drew 1-1 with Botswana, their first game in 19 months. In World Cup qualification, Zimbabwe do not have the strongest of runs. They have no win in the last six matches, losing four. Their most recent one was in 2021, when they drew 1-1 with Ethiopia. A 3-1 win over Somalia in 2019 is their only win in 18 World Cup qualification matches. It is also the only time in 14 World Cup qualification matches that they scored more than a goal. Six times in 10 World Cup qualification matches, Zimbabwe failed to score.
