AS Roma host Athletic Bilbao on Matchday 1 of the new-look Europa League. I Giallorossi returned to winning ways at the weekend in their first game under Ivan Juric, winning 3-0 against Udinese. Los Leones have won their last three games in La Liga but will head to Rome, missing several key first-team players for this opening league stage match. Who will our prediction back to win the game?
Following Daniele De Rossi's departure, Ivan Juric took charge for the first time against Udinese at the weekend and saw his new team win 3-0. It was their first win of the Serie A season. The Italian team has gone three games unbeaten ahead of this opening Europa League tie.
They had previously drawn 0-0 at Juventus and then 1-1 away to Genoa prior to the win over Udinese. The win moved Roma to tenth in the Serie A table after five games.
Athletic Bilbao will make the trip to Rome minus Spanish internationals Nico Williams and Unai Simon, plus defenders Yuri Berchiche and Teray Alvarez. Ernesto Valverde's team is heading into this fixture in good form, even without a quartet of first-choice players.
Prior to this game, they had scored eight goals in their last three games, Beating Las Palmas 3-2 and Leganes 2-0 on the road. Then last weekend, they produced a solid performance, beating Celta Vigo 3-1, a result that leaves them third in the early La Liga table.
The teams have met just once before. That came in a pre-season friendly in 2019, which finished in a 2-2 draw.
