Facundo Diaz Acosta has already had some good fortune in Monte Carlo. He’s in the main draw as a lucky loser and now takes on qualifier Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round. In round two, the winner will face either tenth seed Hubert Hurkacz or unseeded Jack Draper. Acosta is ranked 52nd in the live rankings but 25th in the ATP Race. Last week saw him get to the last 32 in Marrakech. In the qualifying rounds for this Masters 1000 tournament, he beat Diego Schwartzman but then was beaten by Sumit Nagal. Withdrawals then saw him reinstated as a lucky loser. This year has seen him win the Buenos Aries clay court tournament, winning five matches and all in straight sets. The quarterfinals in Cordoba were reached and also the last 16 in both Rio and Santiago.

Roberto Bautista Agut is down at 89th in the live rankings and 76h in the ATP Race. He got to the last 16 in Estoril last week before heading to Monte Carlo for the qualifiers. He beat Dominic Thiem in straight sets and then beat Lorenzo Sonego in three, losing the middle one. He’s twice reached the last 16 at Roland Garros but the last time was in 2017. Four times he’s got to round three in Monte Carlo but was beaten in the second round last year. We go for Acosta to make the most of his reprieve and beat Agut to move into round two in Monte Carlo.
