Rennes started the season on a high, picking three straight wins, beating PSG in the process but they have slumped lately, and are winless in their last two matches going to this clash. It will be tough for them particularly, as they meet a Celtic side on six straight wins and with just one loss in their last 16 matches. Rennes’ last home match ended in a loss to Nice in Ligue 1 but that was just one of only two home losses in the last 22 matches at their backyard and they will be banking heavily on this run when they get to the Celtic game. Last season, Rennes had a good run in the Europa League and only fell to eventual finalists, Arsenal in the latter stages; that 3 – 1 defeat in London was their first in six matches. Celtic on the other hand, have two straight wins in Europa League action, after dropping down from the Champions League qualifiers. They have five wins in 10 Europa League matches. Celtic need to greatly improve on their away form in Europa League; they have won just two of their last 17 away matches in the competition. In the last seven away matches in the competition, they have lost four. This will be the fifth meeting between the two sides, in the earlier four, Celtic have won two and Rennes none. Of their wins, Celtic have not managed one at Rennes backyard.
