Real Madrid are in a great position going into the second leg of this Champions League semi-final. A 2-1 win away at Bayern Munich was a great result for the side who are bidding to win the trophy for the third year in a row. They beat Leganes 2-1 in La Liga on Saturday to keep up their hopes of pipping Atletico Madrid for second spot in La Liga and gave Cristiano Ronaldo a well-deserved night off. Real are undefeated in their last four games since the home defeat by Juventus in the quarter finals, a result that must give Bayern some hope of getting back into this tie. Before that defeat, Real hadn't lost a home Champions League match since defeat by Schalke 04 in 2015 in a game where the tie was all but over. With Ronaldo fit, they know that the chances of them winning this tie are very high indeed.

Bayern Munich have a great home record in the Champions League but it always seems to go wrong for  them when playing at home against Real Madrid. Now they face not just having to win in Madrid but score at least twice. They have won their last four away games in this competition and scored at least twice in each of those matches but this is by far their toughest task. They faced PSG earlier in the season and lost 3-0 away to them, one of a few disappointing away results they have had in the Champions League in recent years. They did get a 2-1 away win over 90 minutes at Real in the 2016-17 season but that only got the extra time and they ended up losing the game 4-2.  Keeping clean sheets on the road isn't a regular occurrence for them and their last 13 away games in this competition have all seen them concede at least once.  Real Madrid know that their opponents have to come forward looking for goals and that should play into their hands.
