Round 23 of the Dutch Eredivisie will kick off this weekend with one of the matches lined up seeing title hopefuls PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente clash at the Philips Stadium. The match is one of the highlights of the round as it brings two teams separated by just three points on the standings and who may harbour league title hopes. PSV are fourth with 43 points, six adrift of top spot while Twente are a further three behind in fifth. PSV have not beaten Twente in the last two meetings and will want to split the season’s spoils on Sunday after losing the first meeting of the season. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men come into this match after seeing their Europa League journey ended by Sevilla in midweek. PSV won the return leg 2-0 but lost the tie following a 3-0 upset in the first leg. The win ended a run of two matches without a win and in such a high-stakes game like the one this weekend, they wouldn’t want to have it any other way. Luuk de Jong was among the goals again for PSV against Sevilla and has now found the back of the net thrice in the last four matches. The former Twente forward has scored eight goals in total for PSV and will once again be expected to spearhead the attack alongside youngster Xavi Simons who has nine goals in the league. The Eindhoven side will continue to be without forwards Anwar El Ghazi and Savio due to injuries.

Twente’s only hope for silverware this season lies in league success but they have faltered in recent weeks and have won only one of their last six matches across all competitions with one of their two defeats in this run seeing them exit the KNVB Beker. Ron Jans’ men come into this match with PSV after losing 2-0 away to Go Ahead Eagles and if they want to remain in the title picture or the very least in the frame for a place in Europe next season, then they absolutely have to win against PSV. They did it in the first leg at home thanks to Vaclav Cerny’s double. The striker has scored seven goals in the league this season and was among the goals in Twente’s 3-0 win over Volendam two match days ago. Cerny and fellow strike partner Ricky van Wolfswinkel will be the main threats for PSV with 14 goals scored between them in the league.
