Portugal and Vietnam are targeting their first win in the 2023 Women’s World Cup after losing starts in Group E. The two nations occupy the bottom slots in the group, Portugal third and Vietnam fourth. Ranked 21st, Portugal fell 1-0 to a superior Netherlands side in their opening game. That defeat left them disadvantaged in a group that also has defending champions USA. That is why Portugal must pull themselves up here. They are making their first appearance at the Women’s World Cup. Portugal have avoided defeat in three of their last four matches. They have nine wins in their last 13 matches but only one has come in their last five games. Twice in their last three matches, Portugal have failed to score. However, they’ve conceded more than a goal in just one of their last 10 games.

Vietnam, just like Portugal, are making their World Cup debut. Their opening game didn’t go so well, as they fell 3-0 to the defending champions, USA. The Asian nation wasn’t expected to give the USA a tough time anyway. Coming into this game though, Vietnam will feel they can get something to carry to their final group game. Vietnam are ranked 11 places below Portugal but they’ll hope this doesn’t count for much. Their recent form hasn’t been great though. In the last four matches, Vietnam have suffered straight losses. They have failed to score in the last three matches too. Defensively, Vietnam doesn't come here on a very strong footing. They have conceded two or more goals in each of the last four matches.
