Wigan Athletic go into this game a point clear of second-placed Blackburn Rovers and with a game in hand. They are two points ahead of third-placed Shrewsbury and with two games in hand it's lookiin good for them to get promoted back to the Championship after being relegated last season. Both Blackburn and Shrewsbury have 3pm kick-offs on Monday, while this is a 5.30pm match, so Wigan could possibly begin the game in third place. Since being knocked out of the FA Cup at the quarter final stage, Wigan have won all three of their league games and without conceding a goal. That's extended their unbeaten league run to seven games and they have won their last three away league matches. Their defence is as solid as ever with only 14 away league goals conceded this season and 41 scored.
While Wigan played their last game on Friday, Portsmouth had to wait until Saturday to travel to Walsall and get an important 1-0 win, so this will be their second game in three days. The Saturday win takes them to ninth in the League One table and they are only two points adrift of the play-off places with a game in hand on fifth placed Scunthorpe. They have only drawn four league games all season and have lost 17 matches and only three teams in the league have lost more than that. Pompey have won 18 league games though, a figure only bettered by four sides in the division. Portsmouth are on a good run at present with three straight wins, all with clean sheets. Home form is a big worry for Portsmouth, the recent win over Oxford ended a run of six games at Fratton Park without a win with four straight defeats before that 3-0 victory.
