Porto vs Chelsea Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Nella Wagah | in Champions League Prediction
Chelsea got a massive reality check in the 5-2 defeat at the hands of relegation threatened West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League, and as they travel to Spain to face Portuguese giants Porto in the Champions League quarter finals, they’ll have a lot of pondering to do. Porto are regarded the weakest of the teams that qualified for the quarters. They are coming from a 2-1 win over Santa Clara and after eliminating Juventus in the last round, they won’t be mistaken for eyeing a semi final slot. The Portuguese giants have four wins in the last five matches and have scored twice in each of their last six matches; they’ve only failed to score in one of the last 12 matches. Sergio Oliveira has been the leading light in attack and after his five goals in the last five matches, he will once again be the man to watch here. He has also scored five in the eight Champions League matches this season, including the two against Juventus in the last game. The team will however be without Mehdi Taremi who was sent off in the Juventus game, which Porto lost 3-2 but advanced on the away goals rule. Porto’s only other loss was in England, as they fell 3-1 to Manchester City at the group stage but they have five wins in the eight games and scored two or more goals in six of the last seven in this competition. The Portuguese side has five clean sheets in the last eight Champions League matches. How they adapt to playing at a neutral venue, in Seville will also be crucial to whether they proceed or not.
Chelsea have met Porto eight times in the Champions League before, won five and lost two. They will be hoping this good form against Porto comes to play at a very tough venue. The Blues are coming from a big defeat in the Premier League, losing 5-2 to struggling West Bromwich Albion. That was the first loss under new manager Thomas Tuchel and also the first defeat in 16 matches and a first half red card to Thiago Silva may have contributed greatly in the loss. Despite the loss, Chelsea are still a quality side and go to this game with four clean sheets in the last five matches, and having scored twice in four of the last five matches. In the last round, they beat Atletico Madrid home and away and head to this game unbeaten in eight, winning six and have six clean sheets in the eight. Chelsea have conceded only two goals in the Champions League this season, while scoring 17 in the eight matches and away from home, they have four straight wins. Frenchman Olivier Giroud has been Chelsea’s star in this competition, with six goals in the eight matches. All his goals have come away from home and having been rested alongside several others for the West Brom game, he will definitely be among the forwards considered here. Antonio Rudiger in defence, and midfielder Ngolo Kante will also be favored to start here after missing the weekend game.

Our Porto vs Chelsea Prediction
Porto have been tough to crack in the Champions League, and Chelsea are about to find out. Chelsea have also done well away from home but that home loss to West Brom will have a psychological impact. In Porto’s form, we expect them to win here but not with a clean sheet, with Olivier Giroud expected to start among Chelsea changes.
