Tuesday’s South African PSL action kicks off in Johannesburg with Orlando Pirates taking on Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium. The Buccaneers are in fifth place in the league standings, while Rise and Shine are second. Let’s jump into the match prediction.
Orlando Pirates have made a positive start to the new PSL season, kicking off the campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Chippa United on opening day, with Monnapule Saleng scoring a last-minute decider.
Either side of that result, the Buccaneers notched up a 3-0 aggregate win over Galaxy in the CAF Champions League qualifiers and also booked their spot in the MTN 8 final which will be played next month.
Pirates have already played five home games across all competitions this season and won all of them. They also beat this opponent 1-0 in their previous PSL matchup last season.
Meanwhile, an eighth-place finish in their first season back in the top flight last term would have been seen as a positive outcome for Polokwane, and they’ve gone on to make an impressive start to this campaign as well.
After bowing out of the MTN 8 to Mamelodi Sundowns last month, Rise and Shine have won both of their first two league matches of the new season, beating Amazulu 2-1 and new boys Magesi 2-0 over the weekend.
However, the visitors are now set to face an opponent they have failed to overcome in their last 13 matches in all competitions (W0 D7 L5), dating back to February 2015.
