Liverpool take vital lessons from last season, after failing to defend their league title, and having to stage a late fight to get into the top four. They start off this season with an away game against Norwich and will be keen to put an early marker to their targets this season. Premier League new boys Norwich are back in the top flight at the first time of asking after a great run in the Championship. The last time they played here, they opened their season with a loss to Liverpool, and finished bottom, so to them also, a good start is key. They have lost Emiliano Buendia to Aston Villa while Todd Cantwell’s future remains in doubt and a bout of Covid at the team also means a number of players are forced to isolate. They played five preseason games, winning four but their confidence will be bashed by the 3-0 loss to Newcastle United – the only Premier League team they faced. They have no win in 14 matches against Liverpool and will head to this game firmly as the underdogs.

Andy Robertson is definitely out of this game after rolling an ankle in preseason but Virgil van Dijk is back while goalkeeper Alisson Becker has already returned and should start this game. Skipper Jordan Henderson is also unlikely to feature after a busy off season with England at Euro 2020.
