Norway (13th seed) and Sweden (5th seed) will meet in the IIHF World Championship on Saturday evening. The Polar Bears’ two losses in the competition have been by very fine margins, and our prediction is that they will push Tre Kronor to the wire in this one.
Norway have kicked off their World Championship with a 2-1 loss to Slovakia before beating Slovenia and Italy 4-0 each. Their last match ended in a 6-5 overtime defeat to Canada.
Notably, the Polar Bears have a full day’s rest advantage coming into this match, while their opponents are playing on back-to-back days, which could be a key factor here.
The Norwegian’s are winless in their last 12 World Championship matches against this opponent. However, their performance against Canada was mightily impressive, and we’re not writing them out in this one.
Meanwhile, Sweden made a poor start to the World Championship, losing two of their first three games, including an against-the-odds loss to the Czech Republic (4-3) on May 18.
However, Tre Kronor have looked better in the lead-up to this match, having thumped Slovenia 6-0 in midweek before making light work of 20th seed Italy last night.
Sweden have won six of their last 10 matches in all competitions, and have never lost a competitive game against this opponent since 1990.

Our Norway vs Sweden Prediction
After a disappointing start to the 2026 IIHF World Championship, Sweden have looked better in their last two games, but there is a case to be made that those were expected against much lower-seeded teams.
Norway, on the other hand, came agonisingly close to pulling off arguably the upset of the tournament so far against Canada in their last match. Even if the Polar Bears lose here, we doubt it will be by a big margin. Our Norway vs Sweden prediction is Norway +3.5.
