Senegal could be looking at an early exit if they fail to win against Norway on matchday two of Group I in the 2026 World Cup. Norway are leading the group with three points after a 4-1 win over Iraq, while Senegal are third after losing 3-1 to France. If Iraq surprises France with a win on this matchday, then Senegal could be eliminated with a loss to Norway. The 'Vikings' could confirm their knockout qualification with a win, so will they and the 'Lions of Teranga' dish out a thrilling game?
Superstar Erling Haaland scored twice on his World Cup debut as Norway broke to a 4-1 win over Iraq. It was a stunning return to the global stage after a 28-year absence for the Vikings, who can confirm their top-two spot without worrying about the final group game against France.
Senegal were impressive in the first half but wilted under the quality of France in a 3-1 defeat in their first match. They are now under pressure to improve or perish with eliminating staring them in the face. Can they improve and get a positive result against Norway? Time to read our analysis and match predictions.

Norway - Senegal: Form Analysis

Norway recorded their largest ever win in a World Cup finals game as they overcame a dogged Iraqi side. All thanks to Haaland's brace, with his 29th and 43rd minute goals edging the encounter before late goals added cushion in the 4-1 win.
The Vikings have now gone four games unbeaten (W2, D2) and have lost just once in their last 17 fixtures (W13, D3). Their defense could come under scrutiny, though, as Norway conceded in seven of their last eight games.
Norway scored 3 or more goals in four of their last seven games.
Senegal held France goalless for more than 60 minutes, but Kylian Mbappe punished them late in a 3-1 defeat. It was a bitter pill to swallow as the Lions of Teranga dominated the first half and should have done better in the final third.
The loss makes it three games without a win for Senegal (D1, L2), who have struggled for wins recently. Only two victories in their last six games (D1, L3) put them in a tricky spot with the looming prospect of a final match day against Iraq to see who finishes third.

Norway & Senegal Squad Analysis
Norway came out unscathed from the game against Iraq, although Martin Odegaard's fitness remains a concern. The Arsenal playmaker was substituted after 81 minutes, although it was more of a precaution to save him for the rest of the tournament.
The Vikings used a 4-1-4-1 formation against Iraq, a minor change from their usual 4-4-2. They have the tactical flexibility to have two strikers up front, with Alexander Sorloth pairing up with Haaland.
Haaland scored at least twice in five of his last seven games for Norway.
Senegal also didn't report any major injuries after their game against France. They used a 4-2-3-1 system in that fixture, although in recent times the Africans have shown enough flexibility for a 4-1-4-1 formation.
That could see Nicolas Jackson as the lone striker, although he missed a big chance and had just 14% success in duels against France. The young PSG forward Ibrahim Mbaye showed enough glimpses of his talent in a 15-minute cameo and could be pushing for a starting role here.

Our Norway vs Senegal Prediction
This is a must-win for both teams for contrasting reasons. A loss here for Norway would put pressure on winning their final group game against France. Senegal would be closer to the exit door if they lost here, especially with two defeats out of two, even though they could still be in the reckoning to finish third. Both teams have shown in recent times that they have the ability to score at will, so this could be a free-flowing game.
Both teams have had issues defensively, so our Norway vs Senegal prediction is BTTS.
Norway vs Senegal Alternative Predictions
Norway wins
With a superstar like Erling Haaland in their side, do Norway have an edge? Not just him, Odegaard's form also tilt the balance in their favor. Senegal have shown against France that they are vulnerable to quality, and that could be their downfall against Norway too. Back the Vikings to win.
