Norway and Latvia will lock horns in the third quarter-final at the 2026 IIHF World Championship on Thursday. The Polar Bears have not lost a game by two clear goals in this competition, and our prediction is that they will keep this one close as well.
Norway have arguably been the biggest surprise package in this competition. They are into their first championship quarter-final since 2012 and are the lowest-seeded of the eight remaining teams (13).
The Polar Bears secured 15 points in Group B and finished second, only behind Canada (W4 OTW1 OTL1 L1). Tinus Koblar has been their best player with five goals and three assists.
Norway have won six of their last 10 matches in all competitions. Notably, four of the last five matches between these sides have gone to overtime.
Meanwhile, Latvia finished third in Group A with 12 points from their seven games (W4 L3). Their last match ended in a thumping 8-1 victory over Hungary on Tuesday evening.
They are the second-lowest scoring team of the quarter-finalists (24 goals). Sandis Vilmais and Rudolf Balcers have 11 points apiece, with the latter having scored in six of his seven games.
Latvia have also won six of their last 10 matches in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last three encounters against this opponent.

Our Norway vs Latvia Prediction
After losing three of their first four matches in this year’s World Championships, Latvia roared back with three wins on the bounce, including a 4-2 victory over the USA, to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.
However, Norway have been extremely impressive this year and are putting together what could be a memorable campaign. We fancy the Polar Bears here, but we’re taking advantage of the favourable odds on offer as our primary wager. Our Norway vs Latvia prediction is Norway +1.5.
