Nicolas Jarry is seeded 16th for the French Open at Roland Garros. In the first round he takes on unseeded Corentin Moutet. Unseeded opposition will also be faced in round two of this clay court tournament. That'll be either Alexander Shevchenko or Aslan Karatsev. Jarry reached the fourth round at Roland Garros last year. That was by far his best performance in this Grand Slam. He'd previously not made it past round one and twice lost in the qualifying rounds. Jarry is the world number 16 but down to 19th in the live rankings as he has plenty of ranking points to defend in this tournament. In the Live ATP Race he's 17th and is in good form after recently reaching the final of the Italian Open. That was his second ATP Tour final of the year having also reached the title decider in Buenos Aires.

Corentin Moutet reached the third round at Roland Garros five years ago. Since then the French player hasn't lost twice in the first round and had a couple of second round losses at Roland Garros. Moutet is ranked 79th in the world and 82nd in the Live ATP Race on Saturday May 25. He's had four previous matches against Jarry and won only one of them. The most recent match between the pair was in Santiago and that's where Moutet got his one win. He won in straight sets and both were decided by a tie-break. Moutet is struggling for form and has lost three of his last four matches. He lost twice in Rome, being beaten in the qualifiers and then reinstated as a lucky loser only to lose in round two.
