Nice will be seeking a flying start in Ligue 1 after surviving through the playoffs last season. Their campaign starts at home to Lorient, who had a rather positive season. Four times in the last six meetings, these sides drew, and our prediction is for the same.
Nice had a torrid campaign last season, finishing low in the Europa League and Ligue 1, before losing in the French Cup final. Their turnaround came in the relegation playoff, and Les Aiglons will be gunning for a good start, and a better season.
Their poor run occasioned fan unrest, and that is another concern the club will be dealing with. At home, Nice are currently winless in 11 league games, seven ending in draws.
In the last five seasons, Nice failed to win on matchday one, and Lorient will be keen on taking advantage. The visitors had a better season last term, finishing 10th.
However, their form wasn’t too inspiring towards the end of the campaign. They won just two of their last eight league matches, and a better start will be welcome here.
Losing key players in Bamba Dieng and Pablo Pagis doesn’t help as Alexandre Dujeux looks to settle in well. The fact that Lorient have only won once in the last eight games against Nice means Dujeux must plan his debut with much caution.
