Newcastle United were not in action last weekend after their match against Aston Villa was postponed and now they get to host West Bromwich Albion on Match Day 12 of the Premier League. The team has so far garnered 14 points and is placed 13th while West Brom are 19th with six points. Newcastle United’s last outing saw them beat Crystal Palace 2-0, with goals in the last two minutes of regular time. That win handed the team the first clean sheet in nine matches, after conceding two or more goals in three of their last six matches and failing to score in two of their last five matches. They head to this game having scored five goals in the last five matches, all the goals coming in the second half of their matches, and four of them in the last 10 minutes of the said matches. However, they have conceded six goals in the five matches, four in the second half and three in the last 10 minutes. After a week out of action the Magpies will be hoping for a better home outing in the league, having lost three of the five played so far, with just one clean sheet coming from their league matches at home. They have scored six goals in the five league matches this season but conceded 11; they have trailed at half time in two of the five home league matches and went on to lose the two. The only time they led at half time in the league at home in their five matches, they went on to win, beating Burnley 3-1. They now have fully fit key players, with Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Richie and Callum Wilson back and will be looking to build on the win over Palace, in which Wilson even scored.

On the other hand, West Brom’s struggles in the top flight continued in the last outing after getting a 5-1 hammering by Palace, making it four losses in the last five matches. With the defeat they failed to build on their first win in 11 matches after earlier beating Sheffield United. This season, in 13 matches, West Brom have two wins; in the League Cup, against Harrogate Town and against the weakest side in the Premier League – Sheffield United. It has been a struggle for West Brom, and key to it has been the poor returns in attack, having failed to score in five of their last eight matches. They have conceded two or more goals in two of their last seven matches. It will even be harder for them going to this game, with Matheus Perreira suspended after getting sent off for kicking out at Patrick van Aanholt in the last game. His appeal was unsuccessful and the team has to make do without him. West Brom, just like Newcastle, have had a tendency of breaking down in the second half; they have conceded seven goals in their last four league matches, and six of these goals have come in the second half. In the last five matches, they lead once at half time. In their last five away league matches, West Brom are winless, have no clean sheet and have failed to score in three, while conceding two or more goals in three. They have scored three goals, and conceded 11 in the last five away league matches and each of the last four has produced under 2.5 goals. In the last eight meetings between these two sides, each has won three.
