Newcastle United host Chelsea at St. James's Park in the early Saturday kick-off of this Premier League weekend. The Magpies are 13th in the table after taking 11 points from eight games. They have failed to win three of their last four Premier League matches. Chelsea, tipped as potential title contenders after a £222 million spending spree in the summer, are fifth with 15 points from their eight league outings. That points haul leaves them three points behind leaders Leicester. The Blues are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions. The acquisition of Edouard Mendy has given Chelsea renewed confidence in their defensive actions. A run of five successive clean sheets came to an end in the 4-1 home win over Sheffield United before the international break. While Frank Lampard would have been disappointed to see the defensive streak broken, seeing his side score three or more goals for the fourth game in a row would have softened that blow. Yet, although Chelsea won their last two away games, it should be remembered that they have failed to win seven of their last ten matches on the road in all competitions. 

The task of winning away is made easier when your opponents have a home record like Newcastle, who have failed to win nine of their last 14 home matches in the Premier League. Then again, you're only as good as your last game, and Newcastle impressed with a 2-1 win over Everton the last time they welcomed anyone to their patch. Callum Wilson scored both goals in that win, the forward hitting six in the league since his summer transfer from Bournemouth. He can test Chelsea's newfound resolve with his combination of speed and strength to potentially replicate Newcastle's 1-0 triumph over Chelsea last season. The visitors have failed to win on six of their last seven trips to Newcastle. We see another tricky game ahead. Back a draw.
