Newcastle will be buoyed by their performance in the last match as they managed a 1-1 draw against Norwich draw despite being reduced to ten men early in the game. Their second successive home game sees them welcome Burnley to St. James Park. Newcastle are bottom of the league with just seven points and yet to win a game in their 14 matches this season. Burnley are two spots above them on 10 points but they have played one game less. This is a do or die match against their fellow strugglers and a win in this match will see them join Burnley on 10 points albeit having played one extra game. Newcastle’s home form has seen a slight improvement having avoided defeat in the last two games with two draws. They need a victory or else they will be favourites to ply their trade in the Championship next season.

Burnley had their third successive draw against Wolves in their last match and have stretched their unbeaten run to four games. They are 18th and three points from the safety zone.They have not won away from home this season in the league with four draws and three losses. After claiming their first win in their 10th match there are signs of a resurgence as they have avoided defeat in their next three matches and should feel confident heading into this match against a team that hasn’t won all season. Burnley have not won in their last six visits to St James Park with four draws and two defeats.
