Southern Hemisphere rugby powerhouses New Zealand and Australia renew their rivalry in the first Test of the Bledisloe Cup series at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday. New Zealand are unbeaten in 53 matches at Eden Park and have won each of their last 11 meetings with Australia, leading us to back the hosts in our prediction.
Dave Rennie will be keen to guide New Zealand back to winning ways after their four-Test series against South Africa ended on a disappointing note in September. The All Blacks secured a shock victory in the opening Test against the Springboks at Ellis Park Stadium before losing their next three matches in the series, including a 43–28 defeat in the final Test.
Nevertheless, the World No. 2 have every reason to be confident of bouncing back in Saturday's clash. They are unbeaten in 53 matches at Eden Park and have won 10 of their last 11 Tests on New Zealand soil, six of which by convincing margins.
Australia are unbeaten in their last six Test matches (W5, D1), including an impressive 42–38 victory over World No. 1 South Africa in the Mandela Challenge Plate Test in Perth last time out. However, Wallabies have lost their last 11 matches against New Zealand, with their last 20 visits to Eden Park to face the All Blacks ending in defeat.
