Germany U21 and Netherlands U21 will face off for the second time at the U21 European Championships, this time at the semi final stage after registering wins in the quarters. Netherlands dumped out a much stronger France U21, rising from a goal down to win 2-1 courtesy of Myron Boadu’s double – his second and third goals in this tournament. Netherlands have proven to be hard to crack and their fighting spirit remains commendable. However, they have no clean sheet at this competition, conceding a goal in each of their four matches so far. They opened their campaign with two straight draws, one of them against Germany U21 and having faced off already, we expect this to be a cagey affair and the fact that both sides have scored in all of Netherlands’ matches in this tournament adds to that.
Germany U21 were forced to come from behind to see off Denmark U21 in their quarter final. They went all the way through extra time and post match penalties, and the German youngsters will be a bit jaded going to this game, having played an extra 30 minutes plus the agony of dealing with penalties. The two nations drew 1-1 in normal time and each side scored in extra time to see the clash end 2-2 before Germany won 6-5 on penalties. Lukas Nmecha, the Manchester City forward on loan at Anderlecht was instrumental in the win over Denmark just as he was in the 1-1 draw with Netherlands at the group stage. He will be expected to lead the line again here and with the Dutch having no clean sheet so far, he will be a favorite to get on the score sheet. He has three goals in this competition
