Neftci Baku’s winning run in the Champions League came to a halt upon their first leg meeting with Olympiakos in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The Greek side goes into this clash leading the tie 1-0 and Neftci have all to play for as they host the clash in Baku. One area the hosts will need to seriously address is their defence, having conceded in each of their last five matches. They had three straight wins ahead of the Olympiakos game but the first time they failed to score in five matches, it ended in defeat. They have goals in them, but some improvement in defence is needed if they are to see off the Greek side, which is also more experienced at this stage. Neftci are unbeaten in their last three matches at home, all competitive games, and kept two clean sheets in them.

Olympiakos had a good start to their season, with the 1-0 win. However, in Neftci’s home form, the one goal lead may not be enough and they will be forced to go all out and try to get a cushion on it. They have a four-game unbeaten run going to this game, with three wins in there and two straight clean sheets. Olympiakos are much more experienced in the Champions League and will want to see that play out here, after getting to the group stage last season. They have also scored in each of their last four matches and have been better defensively as compared to Neftci. They have two losses in their last five away games, but these were against very strong opposition – Red Bull Salzburg and Wolfsberger AC.
