Napoli play host to Fiorentina in this round of 16 tie in the Italian Cup. The hosts got their Serie A challenge back on track with a 1-0 win over Sampdoria in their last match. This was their first win in three matches. Napoli were on a five game unbeaten run at home before suffering a slump in form that saw them lose three of their last five home matches. The home team will be playing their first match in the Cup as the top eight teams in Serie A go straight into the third round draw. Since the turn of the century Napoli have only played Fiorentina twice in the Italian Cup winning both matches in 2014 and 2017. In Napoli’s last five matches neither team has scored more than one goal with four of these matches decided by a single goal.
Fiorentina will be looking to bounce back in this match after they were trounced 4-0 away to Torino in their last match. They are now three matches without a win. Fiorentina will have the advantage of having some Cup action having beaten Cosenza and Benevento in rounds 1 and 2 respectively. This will be their first match in the Cup against a Serie A team as both their previous oppositions were from Serie B. One of the biggest problems facing Fiorentina this season has been their away form. They have only won once in their last seven away matches losing five and drawing the other.
