Goa finished third in the regular season and had to navigate through the playoffs to reach the seedlings. They defeated Chennaiyin 2-1, with two first-half goals setting the tempo. It was their fifth win in a row, and they carried that momentum into the first-leg of this semi-final. Boris Singh Thangjam scored in the 16th minute, and Brandon Fernandes doubled the lead in the 56th minute to give them a great chance to win the first-leg. Unfortunately, they couldn't see off the game and lost concentration in the last phase of the match, proving to be their downfall.
