Mönchengladbach vs Shakhtar Donetsk Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League

The second half of the Champions League groups begin and no the Group B is not upsidedown. Borussia Monchengladbach lead the table by a point from Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid with Inter Milan bottom, three points behind the Germans. It's not been an easy group to predict apart from the fact a lot of goals are being scored. Take away the goalless draw between Shakhtar and Inter and the other five games have all had over 3.5 goals scored in them, let alone 2.5. Monchengladbach (7th in the Bundesliga) have five points from their three games and a home win here could see them on their way into the knock-out stages. They should be almost there already, having given away late goals when playing Real Madrid and Inter Milan. The away game in Donetsk was a bit more clear cut as they beat them 6-0. Monchengladbach haven't won since that game, losing 4-3 at Bayer Leverkusen and then a home draw with Augsburg. Both games again saw them concede after the 80th minute. Home form this season has seen them unbeaten in five, though four have ended level. Their last home loss was to Bayer Leverkusen in May. Their last three home Champions League games have also ended level with both teams scoring in the nine they have played in the last eight years.

Shakhtar Donetsk began this group with that shock 3-2 away win in Madrid. No goals since then though in two home games, including that 6-0 defeat by Monchengladbach. They are only ahead of Real Madrid on head-to-head results and after this game, they host Real Madrid before a final match away to Inter. Like their opponents, Shakhtar drew at the weekend after taking the lead. They remain second, three points behind Dynamo Kiev. Shakhtar aren't in the best of form with only two wins in the last six, though the loss to Monchengladbach was their only loss. Three of the six games ended level. In the Champions League, they have had some good away results in the past two years. Not just that victory in Madrid, but also wins at Atalanta and Hoffenheim. They also drew at Manchester City and have no losses in their last five. Overall though, Shakhtar have only one win in their last seven Champions League matches. A bet on over 2.5 goals is the tip for this game, a small wager on a home win could be worthwhile but remember it's a very unpredictable group.
