The win over Amiens, presented some nice progress by Monaco, as it was their third win of the campaign and third clean sheet of the season and to rise from the relegation region is something Thierry Henry will want to build on with the players at his disposal as he struggles with a long list of injuries and suspension. Radamel Falcao, who has shouldered the team’s goal scoring burden remains the main man for Monaco, and with two goals in the win over Amiens, his experience will be expected to work for the team against in this clash. Monaco will particularly need Falcao given Nice have had a very strong defensive output in the last few matches; they have not conceded a goal in their last six Ligue 1 matches and they are on a seven match unbeaten run in all competitions, ahead of this clash. Nice have had a mixed season but overall, they have done well, beating some stronger teams. Including Lyon and high fliers Lille and to take on Monaco should not be a problem for them. Monaco have not beaten a team in the top half this season; they managed a draw with Lille earlier in the campaign but will pride in the fact that they have scored more goals than Nice, having netted 16 in as many matches, compared to Nice’s 12 in the same number of matches. Nice have managed seven wins from 16 games and have had a better defensive output, conceding 14 goals as compared to Monaco’s return of 24 goals conceded in 16 matches. Monaco’s last home win came in May; they have not managed a win at their backyard in the last 10 matches across all competitions and they are also winless in eight home matches in Ligue 1. On the flip side, Nice have lost just once in their last eight away games, and are currently unbeaten in the last five away matches. Monaco have three wins and Nice two in the last six meetings between the two sides. The last five meetings between the two have each produced over 2.5 goals with Nice keeping two clean sheets and Monaco one and in the 17 meetings they have had in history, Monaco have 17 wins and Nice 13.

Monaco’s poor run at home and generally poor defensive record this season will only serve to complicate matters for them in this game, considering Nice’s run generally and in away matches. The win over Amiens will definitely be a boost for Monaco but Nice will be a tougher opponent and having drawn their last two matches, they will look at this as a winnable game. We expect Nice to win it and with a clean sheet too but with their recent attacking returns we don’t see this yielding over 2.5 goals.
