Monaco and Lyon are set to renew rivalry in what would pass as the biggest game in Ligue 1 this weekend. Both teams are serious title contenders and the outcome of this game will really impact the four-horse race. Monaco will be the host here, going to the game placed third with 71 points while Lyon are fourth on 67 points. Hosts Monaco are just two points below leaders Lille. They recently eliminated Lyon from the French Cup with a 2-0 win, perfectly avenging the 4-1 loss in Ligue 1 earlier in the season. In this game, tempers flare and this isn’t expected to be any different with the high stakes it comes with. In each of the previous three meetings a player has been sent off; the last two have seen Lyon players given the marching orders. Monaco are in really great form going to this game, unbeaten in the last nine matches, and only one loss in 23 across all competitions. They actually have nine clean sheets in the nine unbeaten matches and have won seven of them. In Ligue 1, they head here with five straight wins, and just one loss in 19 matches. In their last nine home league matches, Monaco have not lost, and scored two or more in eight.

Lyon are six points below league leaders Lille. They will officially drop off the race if they don’t win here. Lyon head to this game after two straight losses; first against Monaco in the French Cup then in their last game against Lille. They’ve conceded five goals in those two losses and they have one clean sheet in their last five matches. In Ligue 1 action, they have two wins in six and managed just one clean sheet in the process. Away from home, they have suffered just one loss in the 17 league matches they’ve played this season. It came way back in September, against Montpellier. It has been 15 away matches since that loss. Head to head, each of the teams has won three of the last six meetings.
