Matchday one in Group E of the 2024 UEFA Euro Qualifiers will see Moldova play host to the Faroe Islands on Friday. The first match is always an important one and Moldova understand this especially as they start off their qualifying journey at home. They have not had the best of times in recent years, having been relegated to the bottom tier of the Nations League, and will be there again next season after missing out on promotion by goal difference. They however concluded their campaign with three straight victories which is unlike them and head coach Serghei Cleșcenco will hope to tap into this for this match which should set them up nicely for the visit of the Czech Republic, the other team in the group, along with Poland, this weekend.

The Faroe Islands also come into this match with decent form, having gone unbeaten in their last four Nations League matches. They won two and drew two and will hope to extend this run on Friday. Key to their success has been their improved attack which scored seven goals in those last four Nations League matches. The two nations last played each other in 2021 during the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the Faroe Islands forcing a 1-1 away draw before winning 2-1 at home. Faroe Islands are in FIFA, ranked 51 places above Moldova.
