There’s Championship action at the Riverside on Saturday evening as Middlesbrough hosts in-form Burnley in a crucial promotion battle between the two. Can the Smoggies land a massive win in this match, or will our prediction favour the Clarets or another market entirely? 

It is fair to say that Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough have had a real mixed bag of results at home this season. Their record is decent, as they lie seventh in the table just outside the playoff places. But they have only won half of their games at home, drawing three and losing three as well as their six wins. 

They come into this fixture having drawn two successive games by a 3-3 scoreline, first an exciting away draw at Plymouth Argyle, followed by Boxing Day’s entertaining clash with Sheffield Wednesday, which saw the home side squander a 3-0 half-time lead against the Owls. 

Burnley’s form is outstanding, and Scott Parker will be thrilled with how his team is performing, especially away from home, where they have won all of their last four games and conceded just one goal over that period of victories. 

Unbeaten in their last ten Championship games they have recorded wins in their last three, 2-1 away to Norwich, 2-1 at home to Watford and most impressively a 2-0 win at promotion rivals Sheffield United on Boxing Day. 

They now lie third in the table, just one point off top spot.
