A National League East clash on Wednesday in spring training as the Miami Marlins welcome the Washington Nationals. Spring training is almost like a home game every day for the Marlins as they are set up in Florida as part of the Grapefruit league. They won a pair of World Series in their first 11 years of existence but have only made the playoffs twice in the 20 years since the last one but they have both been in the last four seasons. Luis Arraez led all players in batting average last season and his ability to get on base is a huge part of their success. The problem for the Marlins is that when he is not playing well (like at the moment) the production of the team comes to a halt and scoring runs dries up.

The Nationals are 5-4 coming into this game, narrow 1-0 winners over the St Louis Cardinals when they were last in action on Monday. James Wood is the player to have done the majority of the damage so far for Washington. He has gone 9/19 with three home runs and five batted in to stake a claim on a spot on the opening day roster. He is only 21 so the chances are that he will start in the minors but don't be surprised to see him up with the big club later in the year if he can keep producing. Both Josiah Grey and MacKenzie Gore have looked good in their two starts each while Patrick Corbin has tinkered with his pitches in a bid to find his 2018/19 best.
