Lille start the defence of their Ligue 1 title with an away game at Metz, who will be looking to better their 10th place finish last season. Metz have had a good preseason and finish strongly, with three straight wins and two clean sheets, which builds their confidence going into the new campaign. The level of toughness, however, goes up against Lille, a team they haven’t beaten in their last five meetings. Metz have lost four of five meetings with Lille.
